Funding your care
Government funding for home care
You may be eligible for help with the cost of care from your local council.
Care needs and financial assessments
To find out if you are eligible for local council funding, the council will first carry out a free care needs assessment to work out what kind of care and support you need.
This is followed by a financial assessment to see whether you can afford to pay for care and if you are entitled to any support from the council.
Direct Payments
If you receive social care services and want more control over your care, Direct Payments can be a great option. You receive money directly from the council and use it to pay for your care, which means you can arrange your care with Comprehensive Care Services directly and choose support that suits your schedule.
- More choice and control over your care
- Increased independence
- More flexibility, so care fits around the way you live
- Freedom to organise your own care, as long as your assessed needs are met
You will need to manage your Direct Payments, either yourself or with help. If you do not think you can, you can nominate someone else to manage them for you. If a council cannot offer you Direct Payments, they will explain why.
